Camaro Disk Brake Kit - 1954 Pontiac

Camaro Disk Brake Kit - 1954 Pontiac

Initially I was going to use Camaro disk brake kit for the front brakes but changed my mind to 4 wheel disk brakes instead. My original parts car was a 1976 Camaro and it had power brakes with disks in the front and drums in the rear. The rear end is almost a bolt in affair (see Posi rear end and shocks webpages). I planned on using the original kingpin suspension in the front with some major improvements which will be discussed in the steering and front suspension webpages.

Front disks

Engineered Components Inc. manufactures complete or basic bolt-on disk brake kits for the 54 Chev. The basic kit does not include the rotors, calipers and other misc stuff. I bought the basic kit and scrounged up the rest of the parts from suppliers and my parts car which was chosen exactly for this purpose. The ECI kit is based on the 76 Camaro rotors and calipers.

Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation and I believe that Butch's Rod shop also makes or supplies kits even though nothing shows up on their website at the time of this writing. There are probably a few more suppliers that I don't know about.

Rear drums

I will be using the Camaro's rear drums which conveniently are attached to the Camaro's differential. This means that the front and rear brakes are from the same vehicle which is going to make selecting the master cylinder and proportioning valve very easy!
