Setting up the Digital Receptionist

Setting up the Digital Receptionist

PBX in a Flash has an Interactive Voice Response module with a digital receptionist option. It allows incoming callers to go to a voice menu where they can select via the keypad which extension/user they wish to connect to. It also allows multi language menus. Here's how to setup the digital receptionist.

  1. Check to see if the IVR module is loaded. You should see an IVR option on the FreePBX Setup Menu

If you don't have this menu option, IVR is not installed. Here's instructions on how to add a module using the IVR module as an example.

  2. Now that we know that the IVR module is present. You can start making a Digital Receptionist. The freely available online book (pdf) PIAF without Tears by Ben Sharif has great instructions on setting up the System Recordings (Chapter 10) and the Digital Receptionist (Chapter 11). Download this book now as it is an extremely valuable resource and follow the easy to use instructions for setting up the System Recordings and Digital Receptionist. (Don't forget to leave a donation for him!)

  3. Next add an inbound route to use the new Digital Receptionist.
