Voicemail as an Email Notice and Attachment

Voicemail as an Email Notice and Attachment

At this point, you should have voicemail up and running. The last step in the picture is configuring email notice of a voicemail and attaching the voicemail. The configuration of voicemail is performed in FreePBX's extensions. Each extension has the option of enabling or disabling email notification and/or attaching the voicemail as an audio file

  • Configure the Extension

    Open the extension in FreePBX

The areas that need to be configured are:

    • Email Address - this is the address, you want the voicemail notice to be sent to. Can be any valid email address on the Internet.
    • Email Attachment - check this if you want the voicemail to be attached to the email
    • Delete Vmail - check if you want to delete the voicemail once it has been sent via email attachment.

  • Testing the Email Notification

Normally, the email notification and attachment works flawlessly right out of the box. But what happens when it doesn't? Follow along as we test a bad configuration:

Open up the Webmin interface and select the Servers menu and Sendmail Configuration option

      Next select User Mailboxes

Now select Asterisk from the Read User's Mail

Now if everything worked fine, we should have no mail. If the sent email notification failed, we may have an email present. In this case, we have a returned email

Opening the email, shows that the email address has been entered in incorrectly. There is a typo, there are two periods between sait..ca when there should only be one: sait.ca

We then go back to FreePBX and correct the error in the Extension configuration.
