Getting the most out of the Ford 2.3L

Free Flowing Air Filter Modification

Here's the smoother flowing intake muffler with a free flowing air filter

I removed the original air filter box and replaced it with a free flowing air filter. I purchased it off ebaymotors for cheap. There are several sellers like KBautopart's universal generic kit displayed here:

This has a generic MAF (mass air flow) sensor adapter - notice the slotted mounting holes. It'll fit pretty well anything that has a 3 inch diameter MAF.

It comes with the adapter plate to the mass air flow sensor as it used to be attached directly to the air filter housing. A flexible hose or pipe would be better than the intake muffler as it does restrict the air flow - compare the intake versus the out side diameter of the intake muffler.

Temperature Sensor

In the old air filter box, there is an inlet air temperature sensor. I mounted it to close to the air filter using tie wraps. It tracks the MAF air inlet temperature for the computer.
