Carbon Composition Resistors

Carbon Composition resistors are made of a mixture of finely ground (powered) carbon and insulating material held together by a resin binder. The value of the resistance is determined by the ratio of the carbon to the insulating material. Carbon composition resistors usually have a precision of no better than +/-5%. This means that a 100 ohm resistor could be anywhere from 95 to 105 ohms in actual value.
